Kenneth Hutcheson, 37, died from his injuries related to the shooting which happened in the 6800 block of West 56th Avenue.
ARVADA, Colo. — One man has died following a shooting involving police in Arvada early Wednesday morning.
According to Arvada Police Department (APD) Public Information Officer David Snelling, police got a call from a witness at about 1:18 a.m. about two suspicious suspects around a vehicle near the 6800 block of West 56th Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the vehicle had been stolen out of another jurisdiction and one suspect was left with the vehicle, Snelling said.
The suspect, an adult male, attempted to flee in the vehicle, then ran away on foot, police said.
The suspect ran along Newland Way and turned onto West 56th Avenue where he was confronted by officers in the 6800 block, Snelling told 9NEWS. The suspect, who was described by officers as having a knife, confronted officers and that is when the two APD officers fired shots, Snelling said.
The suspect was shot and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Snelling. APD identified him Wednesday afternoon as 37-year-old Kenneth Delton Hutcheson. The department also provided the photo below which is from a prior arrest in Thornton in December 2021.
Snelling said there is a second person connected to the auto theft that police are looking for, but only have a description of a white male. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, APD said the second person had not been located and they had no additional information about his appearance.
